vengacats: bosscat – an electro punk cat’s whiskers

vengacats’ bosscat makes for compelling listening across its six tracks.

Always punk, the album can be Strawberry Switchblade poppy to having a dark sinister, yet playful, edge similar to that of the legendary Mobiles; while elements of Tubeway Army in the tones threads everything together.

The juxtaposition works perfectly with the feline theme intertwined throughout, the sound of cats—be it purring or meowing—frequently incorporated into the music.

Opening with ‘bosscat’—a track about a cat getting up just so it can get back into bed with its owner—the listener might well be lulled into thinking bosscat is entirely light; however, with the poetically dynamite line ‘but i fear that sunset vomits shadows’ coming in track three ‘stand by’ it reveals itself to be the cat that rolls on its back for belly rubs, only to clamp on claws out just a few purred seconds down the line.

Meow!
