The video for ‘Class War’ has been released to coincide with The Menstrual Cramps’ mini tour of the UK. The track starts with plenty of punch, only hitting harder and heavier from there as in touches numerous elements found under the punk umbrella—from upbeat ska to downright dirty rock ‘n’ roll riffs—before reaching crescendo with a bruising bout of hardcore.
Highly driven social and political lyrics are delivered by Emilia with a fire of conviction akin to verbal lava; anyone not seeing eye-to-eye is dragged across the hot coals of a deadly glare: a look of get onboard or get out the fucking way! to put it mildly.
The video represents this vividly, and while ‘of course’ might seem relevant to that statement, no, not really. The idea it might and actually doing it are two different things. That the latter is captured by the lens is great achievement and certainly no fluke given some of the other neat touches found.
It’s an achievement made more so when realising the video’s creation followed the band’s DIY anarchist ethic: the editing done by drummer AJ; while the filming itself by other half Cheri Clouds, a self-taught filmmaker, who, as the band, is Bristol based.
