Weight of the World

Star_Lore_Of_All_Ages_(1911),_0125,_AtlasA question of context, perhaps perspective; maybe a journey through the unwinding impact writing can have: the calm sea at which the stream of consciousness ends having started on a harsh, craggy mountain side . . . Or maybe it’s nothing so dramatic as that and instead just a pondering on whether things were in fact better or worse in the old days.

I took a shower
figured maybe
it would help
make me feel better
which it did
so long as the water
fell
but the second it stopped
the weight of the world
descended in its stead
except
it was a silly comparison
for no one
has ever imagined even
a god capable of bearing
the catastrophe
after catastrophe
humanity keeps heaping
upon itself
more and more on
each and every day
though
to be fair
even all the way back then
when it was just
a few tress
river and lake
maybe a mountain or two
no one knowing
anything more than
as far as the eye could see
it was still some
incredible push
to imagine the weight
of even just all that
equal to a broken pot
or something likewise
cave person-ish
then again
I imagine
living next door
to a raucous dinosaur
would be a big deal
especially without
a local council
noise enforcement officer
to call upon

Thanks for reading 🙂
